: : Recently I have written an essay and I would like to
: : know others' opinion.
: : The title is:
: : Does portia give a broad hint to Banio as to
: : which casket is the correct one? Explain your answer
: : with reference to act III scene ii.

: : Please tell me what you think. Thanks a lot.

: I once read that a hint may have been given in the song that is sung while Banio is choosing. No music accompanies the other suitors' choices. The book on Elizabethan music suggested that the song was the sort sung as a round and when the first lines (ending in "bred,""head" and "nourished") were sung at the same time as the last lines (ending in "knell" and "bell"), the resulting sound was a combo of "l
: ' and "ead" ... LEAD... repeated over and over. Seemed a bit far fetched to me, but I don't know that much about Elizabethan music. You may wish to look into it.
