apparently ross.. the hankerchief was actually used for a to make love on and was s ymbol of innocence when that was lost or given away (cause it ewas a gift from othello to be used for this purpose) the marriage was apparently lost as well hence the love was lost.. she was supposed to carry this hankerchief around with her always
